Ever since the amazing Evernote Web Clipper came out I've been gathering math resources at an alarming rate. It used to be that I had the self discipline to go through the accumulated awesomeness of the internet in my Evernote notebooks every 6 months or so: Christmas and Summer breaks. After child number three crawled onto the scene I haven't done so well. Say, three years. It's gotten to the point that I'm scared to look and see what's actually in there.
Today I took the plunge. I went through all of 2013's math resources and waded through about half of 2014's goodness. This entails evaluating the resource, picking a place in the curriculum to put it, and then deleting it from Evernote. That means I only have half of 2014, all of 2015 and half of 2016 left.
Do you remember when you could just bookmark things in your browser, forget about them for several years and then come back from the summer and there's a new computer on your desk? What happened to the good old days? I'm looking at you 2004.
One thing I've learned from today's experience--I need to stop gathering lists of resources I plan to go through later. Reality check, I almost never go through them later. I made the mistake of gathering like 50 virtual-filing-cabinet-type resources. You people are wonderful and all but that's insane. No more. From now, on I solemnly pinky swear to pick a specific idea or task to throw into my stockpile of resources rather than than clipping an entire list of possible good things that I will never actually spend the time to go through.
I did manage to find several gems to implement in Algebra 1 and Geometry. Thanks again to everyone blogging or putting up resources in 2013 and the first part of 2014!
Side note: I'm shelling out $35 to subscribe to Evernote this next school year. Not because they are going to limit the free version to two devices; I can easily survive on the free basic version. Not because I can't switch to a different platform either (respectable nod to OneNote). ore because I've used their platform for 6 years now. The company improves my teaching, it's time to show some financial appreciation in return. Paying the price of a mocha a month to help a company I appreciate stick around makes sense.
