Worship Painting - Prayer Class
As we begin the process of learning to listen to God in prayer, the goal is to actually hear God in every aspect of our lives. One of the ways to attempt this is to do it in a controlled environment. Today, we are going to listen to God and create art from the experience. The goal is not to make a piece of art. The purpose is to touch God's heart and enjoy his presence. Creativity is released when the Lord comes because He is creative. Don’t get so caught up in the process of painting that you miss being with God.
Here’s our process for Individual Paintings:
Each of you will have a blank canvas/board in front of you. This is yours to keep after the school year is done.
We will begin by quieting our hearts and minds before the Lord just like we do in prayer and Scripture reading. Focus on who He is for you. Focus on what he’s been teaching you this last month.
Visualization: In this place of stillness with the Lord, imagine yourself as a blank canvas. Imagine what the Holy Spirit is painting on you. What colors is he using? What lines is he making? Begin to replicate that on the canvas in front of you.
Stop often throughout the painting process to close your eyes, find the place of stillness, and return to your anchor in this exercise. What is the Lord doing in your life? What is he painting on you this month?
